The Wisdom Of Youth

Before our match yesterday, one of my tennis kiddos (Michael) arrived early for our match. Since it was extremely hot, I told him to hold off on warming up and sit in the shade for a while. We started chatting a bit about Wimbledon and at a lull in the conversation he asked me if I was into politics. The inner me chuckled.

As I do with every student, I asked him what he thought. Nearly all students are more interested in talking than listening. The first words out of his mouth?

"I want you to know that I'm a Democrat. It seems that all the Republicans are about these days are trying to prove people wrong."

Out of the mouths of babes...

Stop being wrong and there is nothing to prove. Problem solved.

That's so cute. What did your other make believe friends say?

Makes sense to me.

He thinks he is going to win the lottery, be Mike Jordan, and be on American Idol.

And he is a democrat.

He's one of the kids you think are stupid, right?

And you did a fine job of getting your corporate cock sucking friend Rev. Jim off the front page.

I don't understand why though.

He probably wants you to tell him how to stop living his sad (conservative) life.

You do realize how idiotic that sounds. Mark spends three days putting up posts from Jim and then quickly wants them down? And they are just a click away on the left side of the front page.

Assuming that Mark is repeating his words verbatim, the thing that makes me curious is why he wanted Mark to know that he's a Democrat, and then repeated one of Mark's favorite talking points. I'm sure Mark wouldn't ever do any .. nudging for his youthful charges though, he's above all that. Plays it right down the middle, I'm sure. Heh.

In the final analysis, it really doesn't matter whether or not you guys think it's true. It happened just as I described. It capped off a great week politically as well as personally for me.

But if it makes you feel any better recall that one of my students just got hired at the Cato Institute and I am equally as proud of him! Funny, he's said mostly the same thing as Michael:)

Did the Cato Institute promise him an NBA contract and a winning lottery ticket?

Why didn't your student hold out until they gave him an American Idol spot?

Label: Mike Jordan Generation of idiot students that I have to teach

Hey Santa! Have you ever seen such a flurry of posts?

I can't remember Mark being so prolific!

It must be the fact that his best friend Reverend Jim is such a corporate cock sucker, spewing right wing propaganda mother fucker, that he makes Mark do things he doesn't want to do.

Like ~half of Congress does to poor Obama. He is so incredible! Nobody has ever been uncertain about anything he has ever said.

Nobody has ever been uncertain about anything he has ever said.

Absolutely. Like when he said he supports a single payer health plan, but he said single payer scares him. How could anyone be uncertain in the face of such extraordinary clarity?
